Settlement History

Settlement of the area dates from the 1840s, with land used mainly for timber-getting and farming. The population was minimal until the late 1800s. However, significant development did not occur until the post-war years. The population increased substantially during the 1990s as new dwellings were added to the area, then the population was relatively stable between 2001 and 2006. Population and housing growth resumed between 2006 and 2011. Growth is expected to continue, particularly from developments at Cobaki Lakes and Bilambil Heights.

Land use

Bilambil and District is a rural and growing rural-residential and residential area. Rural land is used largely for timber production, dairy farming, and banana and sugar cane growing.
